Define the object
For text input, describe the major volumes, the parts attached to them, and the proportions that distinguish the design. Keep the description focused on one asset. A long scene description can leave it unclear which elements belong in the mesh. The shape prompt accepts up to 600 characters.
For image input, use a clear view of the complete object. If several angles are available, switch to multi-image input and add up to four views of the same subject. Do not mix unrelated variants, different poses, or a close-up that hides which part it depicts. Each upload can be up to 20MB; JPG or PNG is a straightforward choice for reference preparation.
Direct the surface
With Textured output, an optional texture prompt and texture image let you describe or show the desired finish. Assign material characteristics to recognizable parts: the handle, the body, the trim. The texture prompt also accepts up to 600 characters. Keep its instructions consistent with the shape input so the two do not ask for conflicting objects.
A texture image is a surface reference, not another view used to explain the geometry. If you need to show the back of an object, place that image in the multi-image input. Set a Polygon Target for Your Asset
Choose mesh complexity around how you will use the asset.
Meshy’s face-count control here ranges from 100 to 300,000, with 30,000 as the default. The requested count is a target, not a promise that every exported file will contain exactly that number of faces. Start near the default for an unfamiliar object and assess whether its defining curves and cutouts survive.
A small decorative prop and a close-up hero object have different needs. Reduce the target for a background object when its silhouette remains convincing at the planned viewing distance. Retain more geometry when visible curvature or relief matters. A very low target may remove the details that made the reference recognizable.
The topology choice is Triangle or Quad. Think of this as a request about mesh organization, not a certification for animation. Check the downloaded file in your editor, especially before subdivision or deformation. The preview alone cannot establish that an export has the face structure and edge flow your pipeline needs.
Choose an Output and Adjust Meshy Settings
Choose Geometry or Textured output first, then set the available material and detail options.

Select Geometry if you intend to build your own materials or want to judge form first. Turning off PBR alone does not select Geometry. For a textured prop, review the material under your own lighting before deciding whether its appearance is suitable.

Meshy 7’s published emphasis is closer alignment between the reference and the generated shape.
Meshy describes an updated image encoder that reads features at multiple scales and training data more closely aligned with the target geometry. These changes target overall proportions, component placement, and fine surface structure. For a prop with a raised rim or engraved panel, compare the untextured mesh to see whether the detail has become geometry rather than just color.
This is the direction described in Meshy’s release documentation. When comparing with an older Meshy 6 asset, use the same reference and judge the features your project needs: the object’s proportions, the placement of small parts, and the depth of visible relief.
Meshy 7 vs Tripo 3.1 for Reference-Based Work
The practical choice here is between texture direction and explicitly organized views.
Meshy offers a texture prompt and a separate texture reference alongside its image inputs. That is useful when a prop’s finish is part of the design decision: for example, distinguishing a painted body from an exposed metal edge while keeping the main object reference clear.
Tripo 3.1 offers named front, left, back, and right input slots, plus independent geometry and texture quality choices. Consider that workflow when view coverage is the main problem and you already have a consistent set of images. Keep the pose and proportions consistent across those views so they describe a single design.

Inspect Thin Details and Repeated Parts
Look closely where a convincing image can hide a structural mismatch.
Meshy’s published limitations include loose hair strands merging and exact repeated patterns drifting out of alignment. Pay particular attention to those features when they define your design.
For a character accessory, examine fine strands and gaps from the side. Simplify the reference if separate parts cannot be read clearly. For a patterned prop, check whether repeated ridges are equally spaced and whether marks are actual relief or texture. When repetition must be exact, rebuilding that section in a 3D editor can be more appropriate than repeatedly increasing generation detail.
Before using the model in a scene, set scale and orientation and inspect its materials. Before printing, check the solid volume and fragile connections in your preparation software. Use those checks to decide which parts to keep and which to finish in your editor.
